The issue of North Indian workers in Tamil Nadu. Why is it a problem? How to solve it?

The issue of increasing numbers of north Indian workers in Tamil Nadu has started to become a huge problem.

Local communities losing jobs because of them, uncultured and rude behaviors, issues in the train, insisting the local people (who generally speak in Tamil) to speak in Hindi, are the very reasons the local community is not happy with the North Indians.

All the above mentioned issues should be dealt differently on a case by case basis.

Local communities Losing jobs:

Usually the migrant workers are employed for unskilled labor. The very reason the migrant workers are preferred over the local communities is because they work for a smaller wage and they usually work for longer hours than the locals. This brings more profit to their employers.

If the locals are really in need of these jobs they will definitely be ready to work for a smaller wage, and the employers will obviously prefer the locals to the migrants.

Uncultured and rude behaviors:

Many of the locals tend to dislike foreigners or the migrants because of the differences in culture and habits.

It is wise to remember, "Be a Roman in Rome". It is the responsibility of the migrants/foreigners to adjust themselves to the local culture and behave appropriately.

When there's a new migrant, the locals should be able to understand that the migrant will need some time to learn and to adjust to the new culture.

Issues in the train:

The recent issues with the North Indians occupying seats booked by other passengers has also led to hatred and dislike.

Insisting locals to speak Hindi:

Though most don't tend to do this, some of the migrants from North India purposely force others to speak in Hindi.

It might not be a huge problem in some other states of India, but when it comes to Tamil Nadu, it is a huge problem.

The core value or the most valued thing in Tamil Nadu is its language 'Tamil', which has its own heritage.

Tamil People's emotions are tightly bound to their language, hence insisting them to speak in another language can even result in a nation-wide problem.

What can we do?

It is very important for the local community to understand that no one will prefer to leave their home, if they are given the option to stay.

The migrants end up migrating because they have no other option.

The wage that is provided in southern states of India is much better than the wage provided in northern states of India, and usually  it doesn't meet the family needs.

Hence, they end up moving to Southern states in search of jobs.

The North Indians when they move to tamilnadu for work they should respect the local culture, language and the beliefs.

"No one is going to live forever in this land; and hence, there is nothing that we can hold forever in this land."
